Design, Build & Finish

Keurig K Elite Design
Keurig K Elite Review

The first thing that I noticed about the Keurig K Elite coffee maker was the looks of this machine. It looks so nice. The fact is this is not an average plastic pod machine. It has a clean, modern design that adds some style to your countertop instead of making it look cluttered.

Color Choices

You can get the K Elite in a few brushed finishes, and I honestly tell you all of them look pretty sharp. I chose brushed slate, which has a dark, slightly metallic color that matches perfectly with the other appliances in my kitchen.

The Keurig K-Elite is available in:

  • Brushed Slate
  • Brushed Silver
  • Brushed Gold

Depending on where you buy it from, you can get Brushed Silver or even Brushed Gold. They all have the same soft metallic look, not too shiny or cheap, just really clean and subtle. If you care about how your kitchen gadgets look together, this machine definitely won’t ruin your setup.

Build & Material Quality

Although the K Elite is mostly made of durable plastic, it doesn’t feel lightweight at all. The brushed finish gives it the feel of stainless steel, even though it isn’t. Everything from the handle to the water tank feels sturdy.

The Keurig K Elite buttons are also soft to press and very responsive. I mean it doesn’t make any delays or doesn’t need double taps. Even the pod lid also opens and closes very smoothly. It’s clear to me that Keurig put some thought into the coffee maker here.

Functional Design

Every part of the Keurig K Elite feels like it’s placed where it should be. For example, the 75 oz water reservoir sits tucked in the back corner but is easy to grab and refill and anyone can do this. On the other hand, the drip tray slides out effortlessly, and when you remove it, you’ve found extra space for tall mugs or travel tumblers.

Interestingly, there’s a small digital display with a clock. In my point of view, it is a nice bonus if you use the auto-on feature or you are willing to just know the time while waiting for your brew. This is not anything fancy or digital touchscreen-based, but it is still very handy.

Features of Keurig K Elite

Here are the features of the Keurig K Elite coffee maker. So, I divided it into two subsections, one is features and other is unique features.

Key Features

Here are the key features of the Keurig K Elite coffee maker.

Multiple Cup Sizes

You can choose multiple cup sizes in this machine. You can choose from 5 cup sizes: 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 ounces, whether you want a quick espresso shot or a full travel mug. This coffee maker, the K Elite, has you covered.

Strong Brew Option

If you love bold coffee then this feature is only for you. The “Strong” button increases the strength and richness of your brew by slowing down the water flow through the pod. I must say that it’s a game-changer if you find that regular K-Cup coffee is too weak.

Simple Button Controls

By the way there are no touchscreens or confusing menus in Keurig K Elite coffee maker. It has just clearly labeled buttons that make operation straightforward and stress-free for you.

Iced Coffee Setting

This is one of the most exciting additions in the Keurig K Elite. This setting brews hot coffee at a lower temperature, so you can put your coffee directly over ice when you make some with ice. And the wonderful thing is that it isn’t watered down.

Large 75 oz Water Reservoir

This is a dream feature for those people who are always busy in the house or office. You can brew up to 8 cups of coffee before needing to refill the water reservoir. That saves time and hassle in the morning rush.

Removable Drip Tray

You can remove the drip try of Keurig K Elite coffee maker. It is very useful when you are using a tall travel mug. This feature allows you to use mugs up to 7.2” tall.

Unique Features

Like all other coffee makers, this machine has some unique features which make it stand out. And these features make this machine shiner than other coffee makers.

Strong Brew Button

The most unique feature in Keurig K Elite boosts the strength and flavor of your coffee with a longer extraction time. And it is also great for dark roast coffee lovers who like a bolder cup of coffee on every sip.

Iced Coffee Setting

The most important feature especially for iced coffee is the iced coffee setting in Keurig K Elite. You can brew hot coffee at a lower temperature directly over ice, so you don’t end up with a watered-down drink.

Hot Water on Demand

The most useful unique feature is that Keurig K Elite provides hot water not just for coffee but also for tea, soup, oatmeal, or whatever else you need. It’s like this machine has a mini kettle built in.

Programmable Auto On & Off

Another most useful unique feature is that the Keurig K Elite has auto on and off settings. You can set the machine to turn on before you wake up and off automatically to save energy.

Quiet Brew Technology

The interesting feature is that Keurig added a quieter brewing system in Keurig K Elite, so your morning coffee routine doesn’t wake up the whole house. This noise-free technology is my favorite.

Pros and Cons of Keurig K Elite

✅ Hot water on demand

Keurig K Elite vs. Other Keurigs

For your better understanding here I provide a quick comparison with two popular models:

The K Elite strikes a great balance between functionality and simplicity. The interesting thing is, it has more features than the K-Classic, but lacks slightly more advanced smart technology than the K-Supreme Plus.

My First Time Using the Keurig K Elite

So finally here’s my honest, no-fluff review from a real person using this machine for the very first time.

Unboxing & Setup

I’ll be real with you, I don’t want to read manuals, I just want things to work. Luckily, the K Elite is super straightforward. It came in a clean box, well packaged, and once I got it out, the brushed slate finish looked even better in person than in the photos.

The K Elite, setting it up was so easy. Rinse the reservoir, fill it with water, plug it in, run one cleansing brew and boom, ready to go. It takes less than 10 minutes to get it up and running in my time.

The First Brew

I popped in a dark roast K-Cup, chose the 8 oz option, and hit the “Strong” button because I like my coffee to wake me up, not tuck me in. But do you know what surprised me most? The speed of how fast it brewed. This coffee maker takes only just a minute.

And the coffee? Not bad at all. Actually, the coffee tastes pretty good. It’s hot, strong, and smooth, moreover definitely better than I expected from a pod machine. It’s not like espresso level bold, but much better than the watered down K-Cups I’ve had in the past.

After that I tried a second cup with the regular brew setting. Though it was lighter, it was still flavorful. If you are like those kinds of people who like a mild cup of coffee then this setting is just for you. If you are looking for a caffeine punch, I suggest you to go strong.

Iced Coffee Button

This feature felt a little bit deceptive at first, but I am wondering to try it. So I didn’t waste my time and I filled a glass with ice and hit the “Iced” button with a medium roast pod.

I admit it was quite impressive. The coffee came out less hot, so the ice didn’t instantly melt, and the taste didn’t get diluted. It’s not as rich as cold brew, but for something that took 60 seconds? I’ll always choose this coffee maker.

Day-to-Day Convenience

Well, this is where the K Elite really shines. Here I point out some things I noticed during my first few uses:

  • The 75 oz water tank is a lifesaver in this machine. Even though I made multiple cups, I didn’t have to refill it for days.
  • The most interesting thing is that it fits my tall travel mug perfectly when I remove the drip tray.
  • This coffee maker is noise-free. Like, surprisingly quiet. On the other hand, my old brewer used to sound like it was struggling to survive. So, I must say that this one is smooth.
  • And there is one more interesting feature in the coffee maker and that is the hot water on demand feature? Totally underrated, right? I made tea and oatmeal without needing to boil anything on the stove.

What I Didn’t Like

Of course, we know there is no perfect machine in our surroundings. Here’s what I noticed:

  • The first thing I noticed is that there’s no built-in frother, which would’ve been awesome for lattes or cappuccinos. But the problem is, if you need it, you have to buy a separate one.
  • The second thing in my mind is that K-Cups are expensive especially when you drink multiple cups of coffee a day.

One more thing I noticed is that the brew strength is great for a pod machine. But if you’re expecting café-level espresso power, then you are wrong it’s not like that.

My Thoughts After First Use

After just one day, I get why people love this machine. It’s easy to use and also looks fantastic on the counter, makes a genuinely solid cup of coffee in under a minute. And as someone who needs coffee to function but doesn’t want to grind beans every morning, this is honestly the best of both worlds.

But frankly, the Keurig K Elite isn’t perfect, but it nails the balance of speed, convenience, and quality. If you’re in confusion, then I suggest you give it a shot, especially when you are in love with iced coffee, need hot water quickly, or just want to streamline your morning routine.

What I Wish the Keurig K Elite Had

Okay, now I will share some features that I think Keurig can add to this machine. It’s just my point of view. Though, this K Elite is a fantastic coffee maker. But after using this machine for a bit, there are definitely a few features that need to be added to the machine to make it just right.

A Built-In Milk Frother

This is the first and probably the biggest one. For a coffee machine this sleek and high-end, it feels like a missed opportunity not to include a milk frother. Though I drink black coffee most of the time, but sometimes on rare occasions, I want to whip up a quick latte or cappuccino, especially on weekends.

Having a built-in frother would mean it will save my space. I mean, at least it would remove one gadget on my counter. Even a basic steam wand or foam feature would’ve provided so much value.

A Touchscreen or Digital Display

I actually like the simplicity of the button controls, but considering how far coffee machines have come, a small touchscreen could add a modern touch. Maybe some customizable settings too, like saving your preferred cup size or strength so it literally takes one tap to make your coffee every time.

A Used Pod Storage Bin

Every time, when I make a cup of coffee, I have to pull out the K-Cup and toss it. Not a big deal, right? But if there were a built-in compartment to collect some of the used pods, things would be cleaner and more convenient, especially for offices or heavy coffee drinkers.

A Brew Temp Adjustment Option

The K Elite does a good job with temperature. I mean it’s hot, but not scalding. That said, having the ability to adjust the brew temperature but not like what some of the more advanced Keurig or Nespresso machines offer. This would be a welcome bonus, especially for those who are really picky about the taste of their coffee.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Another important feature is that the K Elite is easy to maintain. The K Elites removable drip tray and reservoir make cleaning a breeze. It also has a descaling reminder, which helps more than long the life of your coffee maker.

Also there is even a maintenance alert. This alert informs you when it’s time for a deep clean. Try to use filtered water and descale every 3 months for getting the best performance of K Elite coffee machine. Watch this video if you need guidance.

FAQs

Does the Keurig K Elite come with a water filter?
Of course, The Keurig K Elite includes one water filter with a filter handle to get you started.

Can I use ground coffee with the Keurig K Elite?
Yes, but you’ll need the Keurig My K-Cup Universal Reusable Filter. If you’re wondering where to get this, don’t worry it is sold separately.

Is it noisy?
Not at all. Though it makes a typical Keurig brewing sound, it’s not as loud as older models.

How tall of a mug can it fit in this coffee maker?
You can use a tall mug in this machine, approximately up to 7.2 inches mugs when you remove the drip tray. This coffee maker is perfect for travel mugs.

Final Thoughts

So, in conclusion, I can say that this coffee maker still does what it promises to us. It even works pretty well. But if Keurig ever releases more updated versions like “K Elite Plus” or “K Elite Pro,” I really hope they will add at least a frother and also some smarter tech.

I will give it 9/10 for its design, performance and features. It’s not perfect, but it’s one of the most well-rounded single-serve machines Keurig has ever released. It would take an already great coffee maker and turn it into something next-level.
