Dalgona Coffee Recipe: A Cozy Delight (With Three Different Techniques)
The rich and beautiful harmonious taste of coffee and milk with silky, creamy coffee froth on top will make anyone’s day brighter. I am talking about the trendiest and best Dalgona coffee recipe I’ve ever had.
I am pretty sure you have seen this recipe on various Korean TV shows or in dramas.
After having this, I can say it is worth the hype a hundred percent! It is very easy to make. Anyone can make this coffee.
It Is Dalgona Coffee, Not Dalgona Latte
Dalgona coffee can easily be misunderstood as Dalgona Latte. But both are not the same thing. Even though the base is still the same, the processes are very different. While making the latte version, the coffee doesn’t get whipped and is served with dalgona biscuits. But in the coffee version, the coffee gets whipped to make it like a smooth thick liquid and sometimes very frothy.
Why Try This Hot Dalgona Coffee Recipe?
Dalgona or whipped coffee is a really creative recipe, I must say. But it does require some tricks. I wasn’t even successful for the first couple of tries. But later, I succeeded.
If you can maintain or understand the making theory, you will definitely end up making a good Dalgona Coffee like me.
It has a smooth, thick coffee mixture, but it is not completely liquid. Some people also make this mixture like a stiff froth, almost like meringue, that dissolves in your mouth effortlessly. It tastes kind of or you can say almost like butterscotch.
Also, it contains a really strong flavor of coffee. Even after adding milk, its flavor stays quite strong. So, if you want to make a perfect coffee like mine, give my recipe a try.
Ingredients You Will Be Needing
The ingredients are quite handy, but the process is kinda tricky too, so you have to be patient.
Milk:
Any kind of milk you can use here. Try to use whole milk, it will make the coffee more creamy and smooth. So, if you are vegan, you can use oat milk, almond milk, coconut milk etc. As coffee will be very strong, you may need a larger quantity of milk.
Coffee:
There is no limit to any brand or any type of coffee you can use here. It doesn’t matter if it’s drip, brewed or instant coffee. The result will be the same.
I personally didn’t notice any big differences using different types of coffee. Using Instant coffee can be useful though, it saves time. But, mixed coffee may not be useful here.
Because the ingredients may not be in the same ratio, plus there will be cream powder. It might ruin the texture of your whipped coffee that you were expecting. Also, decaf coffee can also be used here. No need to worry.
I will be using instant coffee powder.
Water:
Water and other mixtures of ingredients also stabilize the froth. It is also used to dissolve the coffee and sugar. So, try to use warm water.
Sugar:
Sugar is one of the key ingredients that will hold the coffee froth or the thick coffee texture for a long time. So, try to use sugar.
Here, it is also the same. Varieties of sugars are available in the market, choose any kind according to your preference. I like sweet things! So, I make sure to add sugar.
By the way, I am adding brown sugar.
If you don’t want to add sugar, then sorry to say, don’t keep your expectations really high for the coffee mixture. It will turn into a liquid sooner than the sugar-mixed coffee.
Whipped Cream (For Garnishing):
You might not need this one because, without it, the coffee still looks so good and delicious.
Anyway, I am using it. It will make the coffee more thick and creamy.
To prepare the whipped cream, you need a chilled bowl. Before beating the cream, refrigerate the bowl. When it gets chilled, take it out from the refrigerator. It doesn’t need more than 2 hours, actually.
Put that whipped cream into the bowl. Here you need to use an electric frother or blender to make it stiff. Done! Now it’s ready to use.
Any Machines Needed?
You will probably need a hand blender or an electric frother to create this velvety delicious coffee if you don’t wanna use your hand.
The Process Of Making The Dalgona Coffee
Here, keep in mind that you definitely have to maintain the ratio. It has to be 1:1:1. Otherwise, the texture won’t be perfect.
I am giving measurements below that are suitable for 1 person.
Brown sugar: 1 tablespoon
Instant coffee: 1 tablespoon
Boiling water: 1 tablespoon
Milk: 1 cup
Step By Step Guide:
Step-1: Prepare The Coffee Mixture
These first two steps are the most important ones. If you get to manage a nice Dalgona coffee you will have the best drink!
So first, what are you gonna do is take a bowl, it doesn’t have to be chilled. Pour coffee and sugar. You can also use granulated sugar. Then pour the hot or warm water into the bowl. Dilute the sugar and the coffee into the water, so that no lumps can be found.
Step-2: Whip The Coffee Mixture
After doing the first step successfully, now it’s time to whip the mixture. Take an electric frother or a hand blender and beat this mixture. Do it patiently until it creates a dense texture. It will take 3-5 minutes if you use any machine I mentioned above.
I like to go with a texture like frosting, which is used to decorate cake. So, I am whipping it until it becomes a little bit stiff but not really stiff.
Step-3: Add Milk
As it’s a hot Dalgona coffee recipe, you need to boil the milk. After boiling it, pour it into a cup or where you want to serve your coffee.
So here, we will not dilute the coffee with milk before serving it. We will simply just put the golden coffee mixture above the milk nicely. Before sipping, mix the coffee and milk by stirring.
Step-4: Garnish It
For garnishing, I have several options to go with. But as a fan of whipped cream, I am going to use whipped cream for topping, which I prepared earlier. I will nicely pour it on top of the milk and ta..da…! It’s done.
Other Options For Garnishing
Shaved Chocolate/ Chocolate Chips:
Chocolate makes anything delicious. It’s one of the easiest toppings to add. So, don’t let your hesitation win against your wish.
Brownie:
You can slice brownie pieces to use as toppings. It will be really good to drink!
Chocolate Sauce:
Chocolate sauce will also be a very good topping for this Dalgona coffee recipe.
You can coat the rim of the mug with chocolate syrup. Or you can add it above the Dalgona coffee.
Other Process Or Techniques To Prepare The Dalgona
As I said earlier, it is a whipped coffee recipe. So, it is your choice about what you prefer the most whether you want to do it manually or by a machine. Basically, the hand was used in the original Dalgona coffee recipe. But it’s quite difficult to do.
Technique – 1 Using A Spoon:
You can use a spoon to make this coffee. But it will take maybe 15 minutes, or less, or more than that. Everyone who has tried those was the average time they took to make this. For this, you need to froth it by moving from right to left rather than in a circular motion.
Technique – 2 Using A Strainer:
You can use a strainer too! It’s quite trendy nowadays on TikTok. All you need to do is just measure the ingredients, pour them onto a plate which is flat, and then mix those ingredients in a circular motion with pressure until they thicken enough. It will probably take a few minutes (maximum) to make a creamy, smooth texture.
Things To Remember:
Remember that, on a first try you may not be able to make this best Dalgona coffee recipe accurately. Maybe the texture won’t be thick enough, or it will be runny.
But after a couple of tries, you will make the best one for sure. So, have patience while trying my hot Dalgona coffee recipe.
Also, make sure to stir the mixture with milk really well. Otherwise, it won’t taste good. Because the coffee mixture is quite strong.
What To Serve With This Drink?
Any dessert will go with this drink. Brownies, pies, cakes, cookies, cheesecakes, cinnamon rolls, literally anything you name, will smoothly go with this drink.

If this happens, you can make a coffee ice cream using this leftover.
