Some Precautions

This flower has numerous ways to be used. But the question is: Is it safe for everyone to consume? Well, it has some side effects. In some exceptional situations, you can’t use it.

  • During pregnancy
  • While breastfeeding
  • If you have allergies

It is not actually prohibited to drink tea, coffee or any caffeinated product while being pregnant. But it may cause harm if consumed in excess. So, many medical professionals suggest setting a limit.

However, there is not enough valuable information about the safety of lavender during pregnancy. So, it is better to avoid this. But if you really want to try this, then it would be better to get permission from your doctor.

Ingredients to use

You will need very simple ingredients. Also the making process is easy.

Oat Milk:

It’s an essential ingredient. You can use vegan or dairy milk if you prefer. Oat milk is not essential.

But here, I am using this because I want to show how to make a Lavender Oat Milk Latte with it. Also, it easily becomes frothy.

I made my oat milk at home. It’s quite simple; you can also try it.

Homemade Oat Milk Recipe:

Take half a cup of oats and two cups of water and make it liquid like milk. You need to use a blender to make this recipe. Then strain it through a cheesecloth. Done!

Remember that, for the amount of oats you will be using for oat milk, you have to use 4 times the amount of water.

Lavender syrup:

Here, I am using my homemade lavender syrup. You can buy it easily from any superstore or maybe a nearby store.

Gourmet Lavender Syrup or syrup from Torani or Monin can be used as well.

But if you intend to use it only in coffee, then don’t buy a large bottle. Look for a mini version. Otherwise it will be wasteful. Since you will not be needing most of it.

I am trying to be honest here and it’s totally my personal opinion. I love homemade lavender syrup more. I’ve tried store – bought products, but I wasn’t fully satisfied.

So, I would also like to suggest you try making it at home. See the result and then decide according to your preference.

Homemade Lavender Syrup:

Use culinary lavender to make this syrup. All types of Lavender aren’t allowed to be consumed. So, for this, use a small amount of dried culinary lavender buds.

Lavender buds

Take half a cup of water and half a cup of sugar, in a pot. Then wait until it simmers. After this, add Lavender buds to the pot.

Boil it well and then let it cool. Now you can store it in a glass jar or in a bottle. As sugar is a natural preservative, this syrup will stay fresh for two to three weeks in the refrigerator.

Espresso:

As it is a latte, there will be a smaller amount of espresso. You can also use freshly brewed coffee if you want. Instant coffee can also be time saving. But fresh ones make a better latte.

You can try different flavors of coffee to find the right one for you. There are Robusta, Arabica, Excelsa, etc. These beans individually have their own flavors.

Don’t worry, it won’t overpower the coffee flavor or the Lavender aroma. You will just have an enhanced coffee taste with multiple flavors.

Difference Between Culinary Lavender And Ornamental Lavender

All kinds of Lavender are not safe to consume. Dried Lavandula angustifolia plants are commonly used for cooking. And the rest of the varieties of Lavender are called ornamental Lavender.

Another plus point is that culinary Lavender has more flavor than fresh ones. That’s why it is more useful. As every type of Lavender is not safe to consume, you have to be very careful while buying this product.

The quality of products also depends on the producers. So, try to find a good source or producer who produces good culinary Lavender. Always pay attention to the color of Lavender buds and see if it is safe to consume before buying.

The dark purple color of the Lavender is better than the grey one. Here another thing is, by using Lavender buds you will not get the purple colour. But if you get the Lavender powder, then your drink will have a nice purple colour.

Measurements And Instructions To Make Lavender Oat Milk Latte :

Step-by-Step Lavender Oat Milk Latte Recipe

Step 1 – Beat The Milk

I am making this Lavender Oat Milk Latte as a hot drink. So, the first thing of yours would be to make the milk hot but not boiling. In a pot, heat it. Or in an oven, heat milk at 150 degrees Fahrenheit.

(But don’t do it for too long. It can harm the flavor.)

Then beat the milk to get the froth. You can use the French press or a bottle to achieve this. A hand blender is also suitable if you have one in your home. Besides this, an electric frother can also be helpful.

This will make the milk more creamy. I like the French press to create the froth.

If you don’t have anything, then a bottle might work for you. Take a bottle, pour milk into it, then shake it. Easily done!

Step 2 – Preparing Coffee Mixture

Take your espresso or coffee which you prepared. And then pour the Lavender Syrup into the coffee. Stir this mixture really well. This latte is normally served as a less sweet drink.

You can use less or more syrup according to your sweetness. It is not mandatory to use cold Espresso. If it’s at room temperature, it is also okay.

Careful While –

Adding Lavender Syrup. This syrup contains quite a strong flavor of Lavender. If you add carelessly, then the drink will be filled with a more floral scent.

It may feel like a soapy dish. The softness of this drink will be lost.

Step 3 – Mix Mix Mix!

Pour the milk into a serving cup. Keep some froth to decorate this drink. Then add the coffee mixture you prepared.

Now mix it really well. Taste the sweetness. If not, add more.

But what to do if it has become too sweet? That’s not a problem. You can fix this by adding more coffee and milk.

Step 4 – Serve Time

Now, it’s time to serve the drink. You can add Lavender buds on the top of the froth if you want. Whipped cream on top also won’t be bad as an option. Let me describe some other ways for you how you can make it more exciting!

Make It Fun

  • You can add different types of syrup to it, like vanilla, maple syrup, etc. You can mix it with oat milk or you can simply mix it with espresso. It will enhance the taste. But be careful while adding syrup so that it doesn’t overpower the Lavender and coffee aroma.
  • Nowadays, some reels are gaining a lot of attention where content creators add edible glitter. It just looks like an expensive magical potion! You can also experiment by adding this glitter.
  • If you want, you can add some purple food coloring to this drink. It will make it more indulgent.

Step 1 –  Prepare The Coffee Mixture

First of all, pour the coffee, lavender syrup and honey (to your desired sweetness) mixture into a cup. Pour some ice cubes into the glass. You can also use crushed ice.

Step 2 – Milk Preparation

This is the final step. Separately take some milk to create froth. And pour the rest of the milk in a glass.

Then, the coffee mixture you prepared earlier, add it also. Mix them well. That’s it!

Now, serve it with a straw and add whipped cream as a topping. You can coat the rim of the glass with purple-colored sugar to make it look more luxurious.

Some Tips

Try to use cold milk and cold coffee for this drink. If you want to use purple food coloring or glitter then my suggestion is to mix it with milk first. When you beat the milk, add the color or the glitter.

(Even though Starbucks doesn’t add any extra food coloring or glitter to their drink. It kind of looks like a slightly earthy colour to me.)
